Therapy Information

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence based therapy that teaches individuals to understand the link between their thoughts, feelings and behaviour. As individuals understand these links they are able to learn new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving that leads to positive change. See information about CBT here.

EMDR is a highly effective psychotherapy method recognized by numerous organizations for treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and more. It focuses on the brain's ability to constantly learn, taking past experiences and updating them with present information. EMDR uses a set of procedures to organize your negative and positive feelings, emotions, and thoughts, and then uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or alternating tapping, to help you effectively work through those disturbing memories. This process replicates the natural sleep pattern, allowing your brain to process troubling experiences and integrate them in a healthier and more adaptive way.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence based therapy that helps individuals increase their psychological flexibility and live according to what is important in their life. Focus is placed on making space for challenges and identifying what is important in life. See information about ACT here.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is an evidence based time-limited psychotherapy that focuses on interpersonal issues and life transitions, as research has shown these can impact mental health. See information about IPT here.

Mindfulness and Relaxation have been shown to be beneficial in therapy. Mindfulness is about being in the present moment without judgement (click here for further information), while relaxation involves physical and mental relaxation (click here).
